A new throwback: this is my rediscovered and finished 2009 skate part. Basically a continuation/ left over/ following year of “Dirty Maneuver” (2008).
The footage was mostly filmed by Ryan Cambage and Casey Schultz throughout 2009 in various Upstate, NY locations – Saratoga, Glens Falls, Lake George, Warrensburg, & Wilton.
It was  all shot on MiniDV tape via an SD Sony Handicam and fisheye lens attachment. The footage was captured and sorted over the years until this month when I finally reviewed, arranged, and edited it.

Music by Devon Williams
“Bells” from Carefree, 2008 Ba Da Bing! and “New Guidance” from Beyond the Beyond, 2015 self released.

Full credits and thank you’s at the end of the video.
Produced by Rated gnaR Films / Bad Culture Films ©2017.

On September 29th,2016 I turned 30 and released my first collection of songs/ album under the name The King Of Nothing Nowhere. ‘Jewel-less Crown’ is a semi-nostalgic, lofi compilation of years of songs throughout my twenties that have come to exist either by experimenting in the moment or through moments, or laying down/ reworking some songs that had come to be instead of letting them be forgotten. Dabbling in acoustic, electronic loops, experimental folk punk, poetry, and written, half-written, and winged songs, I figured I would share this collection as something not to be forgotten, as making these songs as helped me over the years, and it’s important not to forget where you come from and the bad as well as good times for means of growth.

All original creations, either re-recorded or re-worked, or created anew in some way by Christopher Brown, ranging approximately from 2008 to 2016 while living in Wilton, South Glens Falls, & Saratoga NY, and Burlington, VT.

Back in late September 2014, the rated gnaR crew (Casey Schultz, Ryan Cambage, and myself) did some hanging out, skating, and filming in Philadelphia, PA. Casey was competing in the U.S. Freestyle Skateboarding Championship held at Paine’s Skatepark so we ventured down to meet Ryan and have a good time. Casey won 1st place in the amateur division back in 2011, and after a really solid first run, took the gold that year (2014) as well.

I finally got around to uploading a short recap of the competition featuring Casey’s runs as well as runs and clips from other amateurs and professionals. Some competitors even came from outside the U.S. like Canada, Sweden, and Germany. There were some insane lines and tricks thrown down, and the video doesn’t even cover half of it, but it’s a cool watch.

After the comp we hit the streets of Philly and visited FDR park (which is so insanely gnarly you have to witness it in person to realize how hard it is to skate), a DIY skate spot under a bridge somewhere, and an abandoned school (now torn down I believe). With the help of Rebecca Getman (Casey’s girlfriend  who came along for the trip) we filmed some clips using our phones and I (finally) put together a video of that skate experience as well.

I made this video for Super Dark Home Video Season 2 and the 7th annual Peoples Pixel Project (2016 film fest) from The Lake George Arts Project – which won an award in the Tunes category.

About the Making Of:

This footage was shot for fun over the winter of 2014 in hope to get some clips for Michael Brown’s acting real as well as use for some short film or other video ideas – like this one.
It’s all pretty winged in the moment along these train tracks and bridge in Wilton, NY, which i’ve always liked as an interesting location. I revisited the old footage and cut it to about 10 minutes which is like 8 more minutes than the song.

The song “Fools Song” by Sun Burdens (the mostly solo project of Shane Sanchez with collaborations with other musicians like myself) was made by Shane and I in one spontaneous recording session quite a few summers ago. Shane does the percussion and vocals and I do the guitar – we were going for an old-timey 50’s sounding style. I’ve always really liked this song and it has been in the back of my mind for potential music video ideas. This song was eventually released on the ‘Brush of Dream Rush’ album which is downloadable for free at SunBurdens.bandcamp.com

So I combined the song and footage and had to tediously cut it all up and way down to satisfy an appropriate length. I played around the with the coloring and stylizing effects such as Luma Key to ultimately come up with this look.

Thanks for watching and keep an eye out for this and other original music videos in Super Dark Home Video Season 2 coming TBA.
