Been over a year now, there’s just too much to blog about with all of the wonderful music  things happening. No time to update/ post about any of it! Maybe i’ll get to something soon, but the Super Dark events on Mondays and Thursdays at Desperate Annie’s in Saratoga have been going great, as well as the monthly First Friday shows at Pint Sized in Albany. Both of my solo albums are on streaming sites for the heck of it. My bands Mr Cancelled and Blood Blood Blood both put out debut cassettes last year via Super Dark Records, and are also streaming, and Mr Cancelled is currently recording the next EP to hopefully split with Comrade Nixon. Also I joined Steve Hammond and His Rabid Children and we’ve been playing a bunch of shows around including a recent trip to Montreal in Canada. Super Dark and Queen of the Scene were supposed to co-host a bunch of South By SouthWest (SXSW) showcases in Austin, TX but the festival got cancelled due to the current Corona Virus freakout (to which I may be under quarantine right now for very silly reasons related to pharmacy work). Not much video happenings anymore but hopefully i’ll update that eventually as well. Catch ya later???

And i’m psyched to say my collection of old, broken skateboards has finally found a home as a coffee table made by Delia, and a mural/ part of the wall at 51 3rd – a friend’s DIY space/ home that has been an important part of the culture in Troy, NY – previously (and now occasionally) hosting many awesome & experimental shows/ performances.

Currently getting ready to release a tape from the newly recorded Mr. Cancelled album ‘Every Town Has Its Dolls’ coming soon to the Super Dark Records bandcamp.
And other than that the Super Dark Live Video YouTube has hit well over 600 videos now!
There’s too much to keep track of… in the best way. Happy 2019!

SUPER DARK Collective is now hosting shows every Thursday at River Street Pub in Troy, NY starting 12/14/17.

A new throwback: this is my rediscovered and finished 2009 skate part. Basically a continuation/ left over/ following year of “Dirty Maneuver” (2008).
The footage was mostly filmed by Ryan Cambage and Casey Schultz throughout 2009 in various Upstate, NY locations – Saratoga, Glens Falls, Lake George, Warrensburg, & Wilton.
It was  all shot on MiniDV tape via an SD Sony Handicam and fisheye lens attachment. The footage was captured and sorted over the years until this month when I finally reviewed, arranged, and edited it.

Music by Devon Williams
“Bells” from Carefree, 2008 Ba Da Bing! and “New Guidance” from Beyond the Beyond, 2015 self released.

Full credits and thank you’s at the end of the video.
Produced by Rated gnaR Films / Bad Culture Films ©2017.

On September 29th,2016 I turned 30 and released my first collection of songs/ album under the name The King Of Nothing Nowhere. ‘Jewel-less Crown’ is a semi-nostalgic, lofi compilation of years of songs throughout my twenties that have come to exist either by experimenting in the moment or through moments, or laying down/ reworking some songs that had come to be instead of letting them be forgotten. Dabbling in acoustic, electronic loops, experimental folk punk, poetry, and written, half-written, and winged songs, I figured I would share this collection as something not to be forgotten, as making these songs as helped me over the years, and it’s important not to forget where you come from and the bad as well as good times for means of growth.

All original creations, either re-recorded or re-worked, or created anew in some way by Christopher Brown, ranging approximately from 2008 to 2016 while living in Wilton, South Glens Falls, & Saratoga NY, and Burlington, VT.

Back in late September 2014, the rated gnaR crew (Casey Schultz, Ryan Cambage, and myself) did some hanging out, skating, and filming in Philadelphia, PA. Casey was competing in the U.S. Freestyle Skateboarding Championship held at Paine’s Skatepark so we ventured down to meet Ryan and have a good time. Casey won 1st place in the amateur division back in 2011, and after a really solid first run, took the gold that year (2014) as well.

I finally got around to uploading a short recap of the competition featuring Casey’s runs as well as runs and clips from other amateurs and professionals. Some competitors even came from outside the U.S. like Canada, Sweden, and Germany. There were some insane lines and tricks thrown down, and the video doesn’t even cover half of it, but it’s a cool watch.

After the comp we hit the streets of Philly and visited FDR park (which is so insanely gnarly you have to witness it in person to realize how hard it is to skate), a DIY skate spot under a bridge somewhere, and an abandoned school (now torn down I believe). With the help of Rebecca Getman (Casey’s girlfriend  who came along for the trip) we filmed some clips using our phones and I (finally) put together a video of that skate experience as well.

OK! SO, before music and smart phones consumed my life (and many of our lives) I used to skateboard a lot more and film, edit, and produce skate video with some rad, talented, & inspiring friends. 10 years ago we were hoping to put out a semi-full length skateboarding film for fun and documentation - a little slice of people and spots within our Saratoga Springs skate scene. Before iPhones, we carried around a MiniDV tape camcorder with a fisheye lens (all standard, at best, quality at the time) and went everywhere and hit every spot we could with basically no money or regard for the rules. We filmed mostly in 2008 & 2009 around Saratoga and other Upstate, NY places in hopes to upload this thing on YouTube (which had only existed for like 3 years). As time went on, the concept kind of got abandoned and as the parts were slowly finished they popped online and eventually that’s where they all ended up. BUT NOW, for the first time ever, the full film is actually complete (enough) and presented for nostalgic good fun. Those days and the people involved with this video were so important, fun, and inspiring to me. The good ol’ days. Love you all, and skateboarding, and I’m still throwin’ down as much as I can <3 Rated gnaR Films (in association with Bad Culture Films & Rec City Skates) presents DIRTY MANEUVER 25+ minutes (plus bonus videos) featuring @superdarkchris @casey_gnar @paullydiamond @toilet_victim @zakyounginstafam and Dan Levy Please excuse the quality of (some of the skating & antics haha) and the decade old equipment. Thank you all, share with the homies, and enjoi! https://youtu.be/DP2emyubPHk

Times can be uncertain, sad, & scary... like now... which reminds me of my twenties heh... so seems like an appropriate time, since no can do much anyway, to let you know my two lofi solo albums are on all streaming sites (and bandcamp) if anyone is interested. Both compiled/ created during my 20’s and represent a specific, nostalgic journey and moments in my life during that era. Both are experimental in some way, but the first album is songs that came to be over time and whether winged or half-written I chose to make exist instead of forgetting them or not creating a all. I’d call if lofi alt-folk post-punk I guess. The second album is instrumental and structured loop based “practice jams” basically, but they have their moments and meaning all recorded randomly in a year span while living on Church St in Saratoga where Super Dark Collective was born. I’d call it lofi experimental loop jams. I was inspired at the time to actually collect all of these lofi weirdo sad time half songs and put them out thanks to Asa, Shane, Kieran, & Tony. Hope you all are doing well and staying healthy and safe out there! Much love!
