Noise legend in his own right, as well as long-time experimental music and sound creator, often using his own homemade contact mics and contraptions, Crank Sturgeon did a performance art/ noise set at the Upstate Artsits Guild (UAG) in Albany, NY right before Halloween (10/30/12).

I was lucky enough to catch the first 7ish minutes of his set on tape but the whole thing was amazing to witness in person: super fun and super interesting.

check him out/ buy one of his mics or something: CrankSturgeon.com

So for Halloween my friend Shane usually tries to watch as many Halloween themed/ horror movies as possible, adapting this personal 31 day challenge: a horror movie for each day of October. 1 a day if possible but not limited to as long as the 31 is hit. It’s finally here! That time of year when you bust out the Nirvana hoodies, mix your favorite whiskey with hot cider and debate whether or not donning blackface for your Mr. T costume would be a great idea. It’s also that time of year when yours truly opens his haunted email box & takes submissions for Upstate New York’s (and beyond) annual Halloween compilation series, ‘Do the Fright Thing’! This is year four, and as usual all apologies to those who didn’t make the cut.. Here is a fantastic collection of eerie music from some of the areas best electro rockers, punkers, noise-o-weirdos and folkies to make your costume party not suck. Enjoy!
