Christopher Brown “Lost Year”

A new throwback: this is my rediscovered and finished 2009 skate part. Basically a continuation/ left over/ following year of “Dirty Maneuver” (2008).
The footage was mostly filmed by Ryan Cambage and Casey Schultz throughout 2009 in various Upstate, NY locations – Saratoga, Glens Falls, Lake George, Warrensburg, & Wilton.
It was  all shot on MiniDV tape via an SD Sony Handicam and fisheye lens attachment. The footage was captured and sorted over the years until this month when I finally reviewed, arranged, and edited it.

Music by Devon Williams
“Bells” from Carefree, 2008 Ba Da Bing! and “New Guidance” from Beyond the Beyond, 2015 self released.

Full credits and thank you’s at the end of the video.

Ames Sesh 2014

On a very hot summer afternoon in 2013, Casey and Chris skated what is known to the locals as ‘Ames’ loading dock in Saratoga Springs, NY. It was a quick, fun session, here’s what came out of it.

Skate Hike: A Skate Adventure to Rogers Rock

Photo (rip from video) by Christopher Brown

Back in June, Casey and I wanted to make a video for National Go Skateboarding Day aka the first day of summer aka June 21st 2013. We wanted to do something different, something interesting in the world of skateboarding and for ourselves. So Saturday June 22 we grabbed the video camera, tossed our boards in the car, and drove an hour north to Hague, NY to Rogers Rock Campground. There’s a nice mountain trail there leading up to a beautiful view over Lake George. We made our way to the top stopping off where we felt inspired and challenged to skate. There were moments where we put ourselves at serious risk of being hurt or killed but all in good fun and filmmaking. Also, skating on rocks is very difficult and this video doesn’t do justice to how tough it is. We had a blast, enjoy.

Christopher Brown “Just for Fun Footy 2008”

Here is the second installment of the “Just for Fun” footy. This is bonus and throwaway footage from the 2008 filming of my “Dirty Maneuver” skate part.

I love having all of this footage because it’s awesome to go back on and realize so much of these years are well documented. So many good times and moments captured to reflect on and feel nostalgic about.

Remember, skateboarding is fun. So here’s me having a great time and enjoying some of the less serious moments as well as the plenty of rad things that just couldn’t make the cut in the actual part. enjoy.

always, much love and thanks to everyone involved in this footage: from skating to filming to just hanging out and sharing life. all the credits are in the video. peace to dan levy.

Christopher Brown “Dirty Maneuver”

Rated gnaR Films presents Christopher Brown’s skate part from the film “Dirty Maneuver” which never saw a full/ finished DVD release but appears in many parts online (see dirty maneuver tab for all the skate parts and trailers).

After sitting on this footage for four years I finally got the motivation and determination to get it out there. Originally there was another whole year of footage to review, edit, and add in, but i decided to just make it 2008 only and save 2009 for perhaps another video in the future. While to me this skate part should probably be called “Sketchy Maneuver” haha it captures a prime skateboarding year for me when considering devotion, determination, fun, and accomplishments.

This footage was shot from Spring to Fall in 2008 in various location of upstate, NY, including:
Saratoga Springs, Wilton, Ballston Spa, Glens Falls, Schenectady, and Albany.

One of the interesting things about this video is the history and use of different spots. You can see old pieces of Saratoga that don’t exist anymore, or short lived spots in the process of construction. You can also see classic spots that have been skated many times before, and things/ places you have seen but wouldn’t have considered ‘made for skating.’ As a skater’s perspective it’s a cool trip down memory lane…we all miss the self serve.

Filmed mostly by Ryan Cambage and Casey Schultz, with additional filming by Tony Delessio, Daniel Levy and Zak Young.
Edited by me with music by Turbonegro. I originally wanted to skate to a Turbo song so inspired to still do so i choose “Into the Void” a bonus song off of their 2007 album Retox because it was fresh at that time in 2008 and a fun tune which like many of their other songs are quite fitting for skating i feel. Song courtesy of Cooking Vinyl Records and Kontor New Media.
Produced by Rated gnaR Films. Copyright 2012 Rated gnaR/ Bad Culture Films.

It is still in 2008 quality however because this footage was originally shot on miniDV, mostly with a fisheye lens which cut down some of the lighting and clarity, and was originally captured onto a PC with a consumer strength editing program. It was then outputted to 5 different files of “good takes” brought onto a mac and converted again to files that were mac compatible. Finally edited and outputted as a final quicktime file, haha what a process.

This video is dedicated to Daniel Levy, a fellow skater/ artist who’s no longer with us, who inspired us and pushed us to try harder and skate better. There were a lot of fun times and great memories, and it was during the filming of this video where I first met Dan. He is truly missed.

I am hoping/ planning on having a Dirty Maneuver showing at Spring Street Gallery in Saratoga featuring my part as well as Zak Young, Paul Decrescenzo, Casey Schultz and Daniel Levy. Date and everything to be determined.

There is also tons of bonus footage to be compiled into an edit or two later as well…
Thanks to everyone involved and thank you for watching!

Casey Schultz Summer Session 2012

Here is this year’s Summer Session with Casey Ray Schultz.

These sessions/ videos have seem to become a tradition since Casey has been away in California with the Marines. When he comes to visit in June we try to skate a lot and bra a little footage. It started with Casey’s Summer Session 2010, Continued with June Session 2011 (a part with not only Casey but Ryan Cambage and myself) and continues with year with more tricks and shenanigans this year, and hopefully next year as well and who knows.

This 2 day part consists of riding around Saratoga Springs, NY, of course, hitting up some very familiar and classic spots, and also visiting Lake George for the last day of Americade. We first did an Americade film and skate session in The Skate Movie (the first skate movie we did directed by Nicholas Blair) and although we hardly ever go it seems like a loose tradition as well haha. Anyway it’s good because there is a ton of people and motorcycles to distract police so we can skate forbidden areas.

We hung out and skated more so than really filmed a bunch but in the end made out with just about 6 minutes of worthy footage for the video, which got trimmed a bunch and with the song turned into a solid 3 1/2 minute video. Somehow I was inspired yo sue an Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti song. I remember hearing “Bright Lit Blue Sky” and thinking I could see this in a skate part or fun, summer video. Later when I got really into the album Before Today I kept the song in mind i guess and it was the only one i tried to edit the video too and immediately was feeling it.

Probably will submit it to the Lake George Arts People’s Pixel Project this year since they enjoyed a Summer Session video last year. Thanks for reading and watching, enjoy!

The Skate Movies

After years of only being released on DVD and personally distributed to friends and the like, The Skate Movies are now on youtube! Directed by Nicholas Blair these old semi-full length skate videos from my past are classics. The first one released in 2005 and the second one released in 2006 took a lot of work and are very amateur in many ways but impressive in many ways also. We were the first skaters in this area to do something of this magnitude and put it out there, some great times and moments captured here with balling soundtracks… and part II featuring many beats by local artist Shane Sanchez (scissorhands).

Dan Levy – Dirty Maneuver

Here it is, finally!

Rated gnaR Films presents Daniel Levy’s film part for Dirty Maneuver (the closing part of the film).
Filmed from 2008 to 2010, periodically, in Saratoga, Albany, Schenectady, and Troy, NY.
Filmed mostly by Chris Brown, Ryan Cambage, and Casey Schultz, edit by Ryan Cambage, produced by Rated gnaR Films.

We’re proud to finally share Dan’s part with the world after it being blocked by copyright upon its original upload months ago… this part, nothing less than epic, really demostrates Daniel’s raw talent and creativity on a skatebaord, as well as his antics of fun and frustration while shooting. Throughout the making of this video, and any other time with Dan, was a blast. He was one of my all time favorite people to skate/ film with, and he always helped to push me and bring out the best in my ability. This is also true with his other friends and Rated gnaR crew like Casey Schultz, Ryan Cambage, and Zak Young.

This video is dedicated to Dan, in loving memory, and his friends and family. Memories like these will live on forever, and through Dan’s art and inspiration, on and off a skateboard, he can truely never die.

Thanks for watching, reading, and sharing!
-Chris and the entire Rated gnaR crew, much love.
